Since when is everything indie?

I recently saw a question on Y!A asking for a list of good indie bands. Someone answered saying Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Simon and Garfunkel, Nirvana.

I've been hearing many people refer to non-indie bands as indie.

Whatever happened to psychedelic rock? Hard rock? Folk? Grunge? Since when is everything that dissents from the norm or not played on MTV considered indie?

All of the above artists were signed to major record companies, and they weren't "underground".. So how can some morons refer to it as indie?

Thoughts? Opinions?

Indie is an ignorant excuse for a genre! All Indie is a collection of bands cutting records for Independent labels, PERIOD! I've heard Indie Jazz, Indie Metal, Indie Reggae and Indie Blues...... I could care less what label a band is on (or not). It's not about the label, it's about the MUSIC!
