Posters are cool. Some of them are rare, some of them are being collected as a part of a hobby, but only a small percentage of them are effective. All in all, if there is no poster, there is no event/film/band, at least for an average viewer. We will be discussing on what's important in your posters, placing them and what you should have in them.
The first key to posters is - if they can be seen easily, they will be seen and your party/movie/business/idea will be recognized by people.
The second key to posters is - delivering an informational message is better than delivering none. What's important is - you are putting yourself on the line, be responsible for your posters, especially if they are on public places. No one likes to walk by an ugly poster every day.
Poster efficiency follows this simple formula - the likelihood to close the customer = times seen * like/dislike. People hate or love your posters more and more each day. Everyone sees them and it is clearly only your responsibility to create them good and convert clients.
Also, if you're planning advertising an event with posters, you should probably offer the people coming something for free or something exclusive, like "drinks for free for people with wizard hats at my party", or "get to ask ME, THE HOST of the party free questions".
A good poster is with a clear motto, a good image and a quality look. You can only make your poster stand out if it's put on good paper. How much is a Star Wars poster with Leonardo Dicaprio as Anakin worth? just wondering.?
I found an official looking promo mounted poster with other glossy photos from the movie. The funny thing is that it is actually Leonardo Dicaprio pictured as Anakin. I know he turned the role down but I was wondering if any promo pictures were made. If so, how many and what might it be worth. Wont be selling but will need to insure.
If it is real, and not just a bootleg, then I would guess it would be worth quite a lot. I don't see how it could be a "misprint," as its not like they accidently substituted Leonardo Dicaprio's face for Anakins; it would make sense that they might have actually made a few movie posters. Or, it could just be someone trying to make money, but even this could amount to something. Some people have actually started collecting the bootlegs. Either way, it's a win-win situation.
You could also look to the "Revenge of the Jedi" posters. Originally, "Return of the Jedi" was supposed to be "Revenge of the Jedi," and there were a few posters printed. Then Lucas decided that it wouldn't be characteristic of a Jedi to want revenge, so he changed it to the title we know today. These rare "Revenge" posters go for about $1,000, although now people have started reprinting them. I put two examples from ebay below.
If you seriously want to get it insured, I would probably go to an appraiser. Although this way, you get all of these Star Wars fans drooling over your treasure. Lucky you!
