Useful Vocabulary and Phrases

haku - "to wear, to put on" (class 1 verb)

Kiru also means "to wear" or "to put on." Generally speaking, we use kiru when talking about items put on the upper body, such as shirts or jacket, whereas haku covers the items worn on the lower body, such as pants or shoes.

The opposite action, "to take off," is nugu, which we use for both the upper and lower body.

Examples

  1. "to wear jeans" ? jiinzu o haku
  2. "to wear sneakers" ? suniikaa o haku
  3. "to wear a coat" ? kooto o kiru
  4. "to wear a kimono" ? kimono o kiru

Kochira ni sain o onegai shimasu.

"Please sign here."

In Japanese, sain means either "signature" or "autograph."

"Signature" - sain or shomei

"Autograph" - sain

Shitsurei shimashita.

Shitsurei means "rudeness" or "discourtesy." Shimashita is the formal past form of the verb suru. So, this phrase literally means "I committed discourtesy" and is equivalent to "I'm sorry" or "excuse me" in English.

Target Phrase

Kono kutsu wa karukute, haki yasui desu yo.

"These shoes are light and easy to put on."

Kono pen wa kakinikui.

"This pen is hard to write with."

The usage of the adjective-forming suffixes -yasui and -nikui is today's target grammar point. [masu stem of a verb] + yasui and [masu stem of a verb] + nikui mean "easy to do" and "hard to do," respectively. They conjugate as i-adjectives.

Well, today, Venus Williams lost in the first round of the Austrailan Open. So, its up to Serena to win it (and its not looking good) if you want to sell it after they win a grand slam.

autographed stuff price?

I have some signed things from different bands. I don't wanna sell them, but I want to know how much they would maybe be worth.

I have some pink checkered vans with autographs and doodles from the hush sound, phantom planet, and ghostland observatory.

I have a vinyl pretty.odd album and 10,000 exist globally signed by Panic! at the disco

the stuff is pretty sweet but how much would they be worth individually?

The Phantom Planet, Ghostland, and Hush sound stuff honestly wouldn't be worth much more than bragging rights....$50 at the most.

The Panic! would get between $100-$250.

The bigger the name, the more likely other people would want to buy it. Really minor bands like Hush Sound and Ghostland Observatory do fan meets after almost every show so it's not hard to get stuff signed by them.

Question about reprints of autographs?

Okay, I was thinking about buying autographs of top tennis players on ebay, but I noticed it said "reprint picture." What does that mean? Does it mean that they just copied the picture with the autograph on it, or did they copy the picture AND THEN get the autograph signed? PLEASE HELP!!!!

It is a copy of a photograph. It is not autographed since that is a copy of the signature. Could even be stamped on the photograph. Basically it is worth nothing. You could print a photograph off the Internet that has a signature on it and it would be the same (cost less). RULE NUMBER 1 when obtaining autographs. Make sure you are the one getting the autograph from the famous person. That way you are 100 percent sure it is legit. Most of the autographs being sold on eBay are fakes.

To make sure that you don't trick yourself, read the description carefully. Make sure that you are not buying a preprint, a reprint, a secretarial signature, a stamp or a product made with an autopen. Autopen autographs are often put forward as the real thing, especially by vendors who may not have done their research. To identify an autopen autograph, look for writing that seems to be shaky or have sudden stops in it. A preprint autograph, on the other hand, is an autograph that is essentially part of the picture. The signature will appear to be under the gloss or finish of the paper or card. To see if an autograph is preprinted, hold the card up to the light and see if light reflects off of the signature the same way that it does the rest of the surface. If the light is evenly reflected, this means that the signature has been preprinted.

One of the best things you can do when you are hoping to collect an elusive autograph is to take a look at real examples of the autograph of the person in question. While no one's signature remains exactly the same from signing to signing, you'll find that there are probably enough similarities to help you weed out the worst of the fakes.

Autograph collecting can be a wonderfully enjoyable hobby, and there are plenty of honest vendors out there who will give you exactly what you are looking for. Do be careful, however, and remember that a little bit of vigilance and care can go a long way!

I gave them a check which was set to go through within 30 days from now, but I canceled it. I didn't take the car off the lot because, I was trying to get insurance.
