One thing all the world's top guitarists would agree on is the importance of jam sessions. Despite recent developments and improvements in practice CD's and play along computer software, nothing beats playing along with another human being!

Jam sessions come in two sizes, king size good and king size bad.

A good jam session is when you walk away with a new confidence in your guitar playing and your ability to perform, it's a real positive learning experience where you can try out new ideas and learn by watching other musicians interact.

The bad jam session is a real drag, with the overall feeling that it was just a "waste of time".

Here's seven tips to make certain your jam sessions are good.

Tip 1: Set Goals for your session

Define the purpose of the jam session, is the session:

(a) a fun get together of friends who play the guitar?

(b) an audition style session where you intend to check out perspective guitar players for your band

(c) working on original material for a recording session ...etc

Always begin planning your jam session(s) with a clear goal in mind, you will have much more fun, the musicians will enjoy the session and want to participate in future sessions and you will achieve much more in a greatly reduced time frame.

Tip 2: Select material

Make a list of the material you want to rehearse, depending on the purpose of the jam session you may need anything from 3 to 12 songs. The idea here is to think about what you want to rehearse, is it originals, covers or maybe you need to work on selecting material and song sequencing for your live performances.

Tip 3: Choose the correct keys

If you are working with a singer you will need to organize a private rehearsal to define the best keys for the vocalist. It's much better to do this without the whole band, you will work much quicker and more accurately without the added background noise and distractions.

Tip 4: Write the musical arrangements

Even if the members at the jam session are not working from standard music notation, it's important of write out the chord charts in the correct key(s) with the appropriate musical road map information e.g., repeat signs, coda sign, musical dynamic markings ...etc.

Tip 5: Equipment checklist

It's a great idea to create a session checklist of equipment you need to organize such as ...

(a) spare guitar strings

(b) string winder

(c) spare guitar leads

(d) wah-wah pedal etc

These items are pretty obvious, but you will be amazed how much time it saves when you have them all itemized ... the whole jam session or performance can come to a grinding halt if someone forgets to bring a $20 guitar lead!

Tip 6: Contact the players

Now that you have selected the material, written the arrangements in the correct key(s) it's time to contact the players you want to invite to the jam session, this gives you control over the quality of the performance.

Remember, a sporting team is only as good as it's weakest member ... it's the same with a band!

Do everything you can think of before the session so everyone can enjoy the learning experience. For example, you may need to send some audio tracks to certain band members who may not be familiar with the material you intend to rehearse.

Tip 7: Record the session

Don't forget to recording the jam session, this does not have to be an elaborate recoding, a simple cassette recorder will do the job. It's amazing how much you can learn by listening to the jam session recordings, I recommend listening to the recordings two or three days after the session, this will give you a good "first impression" of how your band sounds.

Don't forget to make copies of the jam session recordings to give to other band members so they can listen and learn. Guitarists really thrive off the energy of a well organized jam session, when you have the proper preparation everything just flows, other musicians want to join in and soon word spreads,

that's how reputations are developed and successful musical careers are created.

I like the black and white photos idea. If you have some pictures of your own, you can just go to Staples and get them copied into black and white. A lot of stores are starting to have their holiday sales now so you could probably get some good deals on black frames.

I think the framed black and white prints will work better than the posters since they will be framed and can be done so inexpensively. If you really want some posters in the mix, check out art.com for the posters, but look elsewhere for the frames ( a place like sendaframe.com).

1. PRESENTATION - DRESS RIGHT. Know your Image and Type.

First impressions do count so Go for the Gold...not the time for sloppy jeans or east village thrift shop clothes (unless THAT is your type). Dress with confidence like a movie star so that's how they remember you. For guys: LOOK like you're already starring on CSI and you probably will! Ladies: vibrant colors, sexy boots, go upscale like "Gossip Girl" or "Ugly Betty" not walking the dog or day off to the gym clothes.

2. PASSION - TALK ABOUT WHERE YOU CAREER IS GOING - Not where it's been.

Agents can read your credits and training on your resume, your skills, hobbies and teachers. But they need to know how to market you and how to make that paltry 10% for all the work they have to do- so you can meet the industry and BOOK a job! Even if you aren't currently working in a film or TV series, talk about the future, project your goals and "dream roles" with passion. If they can feel as excited about your career as you are-they'll work WITH you and FOR you!

3. PERSONALITY - BOND OVER ANY SUBJECT. Make A "Connection". Be yourself!

If the conversation is going dry and you've run out of things to say about your "ideal roles" LOOK AROUND THE ROOM. Is there anything that attracts your interest? Do you have anything in common with this person? The artwork on the wall? Their taste in interior design ? See a photo on their desk of their family on a skiing trip or an exotic location where they traveled. Ask about their life and talk about something you both are interested in. If people like you, know you and trust you they'll be motivated to help ...and push your career to the top!

Unique and different bridal shower favors are not always easy to find. After all, if they are in the stores or on websites that sell bridal shower favors, they are available to a wide range of people. They may still be unique to you and your friends, but why not consider making your bridal shower favors?

Unique and different bridal shower favors, that are handmade by you, will be treasured far more than those that are ordered in haste.

Candle Bridal Shower Favors

First you will need the candles. Candles can be purchased in bulk for making your unique and different bridal shower favors. Look online for the Candle Factory of Grand Traverse. There you can order white tea candles in metal cups for as little as 12 cents each. Tea lights will burn up to 4 hours, so this may be as large as you want for bridal shower favors. If you want a longer burning or larger candle, order 9-hour votives for as little as 19 cents.

Next you will need candle holders. Bell-a-Roma is a good place to shop. Their selection includes holders for either tea lights or votive candles. Scan photos of the bride and her friends into your computer, and size them to fit the 3" x 3" scrapbook pages. Passport size photos work well. Crop your photos to focus on the most important details.

Create 6 digital scrapbook pages, with different digital paper for each. Open windows for your photos, insert, and frame them. Add a brief note or caption and a small embellishment.

Walk outside your door and take in the brightly colored flowers, the wind rustling through the foliage and the heavy scent of lavender that permeates the air as you sit on your patio. It is easy to incorporate all that nature has to offer into your backyard retreat when you use planter boxes.

Try Blondie, but not the commercial stuff - the older and album stuff is far better

No...it will distort. Actually, what I would suggest is that you cut the patch out about 1" larger than needed. Do the transfer process. I would first iron the patch to freezer paper, with the paper ironed on the back of the patch to keep it square while putting the transfer on it. Remove the freezer paper.

If you are going to hand embroider...you may want to make sure your patch is large enough to fit securely into a hoop...should not be hard to find a hoop small enough...but... I hate fighting the edge of the hoop when I am stitching...keep that in mind.

Once embroidered...soak the patch in a small pan/bowl (glass or plastic) that has dish soap, water and a little oxyclean in it... peroxide (stuff used for cuts) will work also.
This should remove all the transfer. Soak until the transfer is no longer visable...rinse, roll in a towel to remove as much water as you can..then let it air dry....press from the back while still slightly damp...I use a bit of spray sizing or starch to add body back to my embroidered pieces before I square them up with a ruler & my rotary cutter.

You will be PRESSING the patch, not ironing it...Press by putting the iron onto the patch, then lift and put on another section..repeat until the patch is pressed & dry.

It has either been a long time coming or I've been very impatient but my Grandmother used to say, "everything good comes to those who wait" and an online CPA video advertising network was worth the waiting for.

Everyone hopes that one day they will have that "Ah Ha" moment but this has been my week. True, it's a totally new genre but the idea has been circling and missing, landing and falling over and now the idea has finally found its wings and its feet. Technology has caught up with desire and now the playing fields are being defined. There's no doubt about the ingenuity of Internet Marketers (IM) when they are augmented by techie-geeks, the ideas flow fast and furious.

I have been working on the internet now for 4 years and I try to keep up with new ideas and developments to the point that the sifting process sometimes gets a bit clogged but there is one sure thing about the Internet, and that is if something isn't going to work it sits around in cyberspace like a dead "Dodo" bird except the bird is at least remembered because it has become extinct.

A failed project is totally inert. If one is wise enough to accept the lesson from the failure and move on then the exercise hasn't been a waste of time or money. The only way we know if something will work or not is if it flies or falls over.

If it fails, then take the lesson and get on with the next project. This is how this video CPA network evolved I'm quite sure. I know nothing about the people behind this technology except they are very friendly and helpful and I'm willing to bet they got this way because they have 'fallen down' enough times as my Asian friends so delightfully phrase it.

Anyone involved in Internet marketing today knows that video is nudging articles in the ribs to move over and make room. As the deluge of articles has increased due largely to the use of article re-writers and other techie aids, the quality of many articles has fallen off and many of them now lack that "energy" that is the spirit contained in a well-written article. So, like everything else, if it falls over then bring on the next and I believe the next is video CPA networks now that the technology is here to embed the codes into the videos. Isn't Technology wonderful?

Up until this point in time there have been the video producers and the publishers but no-one seems to have been able to make the two "marry-up"so that there is a return on their investments. The other fact, I believe that has held video back, is what I call "the Ben Hur" mentality. There is no reason today for video producers trying to make all their ROI from their first few Clients. People seeking information about a product or service couldn't give a proverbial about the movie quality of the video as they just want the information so video producers and advertisers are needing to rethink their marketing strategies. Good quality yes, but it does not have to be cinema perfect.

Cost per action or CPA has always been an option available for Internet Marketers to make a fair living off providing space on a website to publish these Ads. There are good CPA networks looking for good affiliates and there is better CPA networks looking for the top affiliates. Now with Video CPA ads being available for Internet Marketers the playing field is levelling out. Stolen affiliate commissions can't happen when the affiliate code is embedded into the video.

Everyone will need to make up their own minds about CPA video networks, but my money as an Internet marketer is firmly on the table. I've done my time sitting on the fence waiting for this technology.

you have to bear in mind that the american idol producers have not issued any clear statements to clarify how the wildcard show will work, so my answer is based on a site which bases its prediction on leaks by idol producers, and various articles written with regards to the wildcard night.i've sited the link right at the bottom.

the judges will vote on the contestants they feel deserve a chance at the wildcard round, and will pick the 3 from the wild card group based on their performance on wild card night (some say they'll sing the same song they've sang during the top 36 performances, but considering that the judges had a problem with many contestants because of song choice, they'll probably be made to perform different songs)
so the judges will vote on the final 3, and in case of a 2-2 tie, simon will be the tie breaker.

Say you are the typical small business that advertises in your local Yellow Pages. You have chosen to be listed on the smaller Eastside directory and under "Catering." There are 20 other caters and now it's up to you to determine what size will be most effective. Your rep is encouraging you to place the largest ad because either (a) he thinks it's best for your business, (b) he says it will dominate the page, (c) he says it will make you the most money, or (d) he gets paid by commission.

Now first, let me explain that I was a YP rep for 25 years and my answer would be all of the above. But for many, it was only (d). In other words, can you really trust the rep to suggest an ad size or color when he gets paid more for the larger ads? I doubt if he or she will ever recommend the smallest ad without color. So, what should you do?

It begins with the heading and the competition. If you are a plumber confronted with 10 full pages and you can only afford an eighth of a page, maybe you should rethink the Yellow Pages at all. You see, plumbing is normally an emergency heading where a leak or broken pipe needs immediate attention. So Mrs. Smith starts at the beginning of the heading and works her way back. But not too far back. After flipping five pages, her little fingers are getting sore and she stops. She most probably would never get to your teeny-tiny ad in the back. Unless it offers "Free Service Calls, Free Parts, Free Dinner for 10 with every Repair and a Free Trip to Hawaii." Get my point? Assuming you're not in a giving mood, consider your options.

To be competitive with 10 full pages, nothing less than a half-page will work. And marginally well at that. But even that's still too expensive, you whine. I hate whiners but I'll let this one go. Either look for a cheaper Yellow Page book from a competitor or try the Internet. Look into Google ads. Or, try the larger ad YP by cutting back on your non-profitable overhead. Advertising is the life-blood of a business and you have to keep the trucks rolling. Unless you have a rare business that can totally survive on word-of-mouth, YP advertising is still the most effective for any emergency-type business. Although the Internet is becoming more powerful each day, it's also more fiercely competitive for that very reason.

I'm often asked if a smaller ad in full-color is better than a larger in black and yellow. The answer is that it depends. What are you selling? The florist, decorator, or swimming pool sales company can offer some pretty color pictures. But, why would I choose a plumber with a nice full-color flooded house? Or a color picture of an attorney? Does the color enhance the message? Sometimes it does. But I opt for size and position in most cases. "Position" meaning that the larger ads are placed first and before the smaller ones. So they are seen first as well. Finally, larger ads have more space to tell your story and include answers to all the "who, what, where, when and why" questions.

there is a really easy way to do this on photoshop.

First open your photo in PS of course.

Then go to Layer - Duplicate Layer

Click OK

Then go to Image - Adjustments - Hue / Saturation

Drag the Saturation slider all the way to the left to make the photo black and white.

Click OK

Then get the ERASER tool from the tool box on the left side of the screen. It is usually the next tool under the clone stamp tool. Just hover your mouse over the tool, and it will say Eraser.

When you have selected the Eraser, go up to the Brush options box at the top of the screen, and click on the down facing arrow. Set the Hardness of the brush to 100% so you will have accurate control of selection. You may also need to raise or lower the brush size to suit.

Erase away any black and white from where you want the color to be revealed.

When done go to
Layer - Flatten Image

Motion pictures centered around deceased bloodsucking folkloric preternaturals, or vampires as they are more commonly referred to as, have certainly come along way since the good old days when Bela Lugosi's Dracula "vanted to suck your blood." And even though F.W. Murnau set the bar incredibly high in 1922 with his iconic German expressionist film, Nosferatu, the vampire subgenre has no doubt seen its ups and downs in the eighty-eight years that followed.

Of course you have the many great ones that we have seen, like Let The Right One In and The Lost Boys that have kept our spirits high. Unfortunately, we also have all the garbage that comes out that continuously drags the popular vampire mythology through the dirt, like the Twilight saga (sorry Twihards, it's just my opinion).

Luckily, Hollywood's latest contribution to the vampire counter culture appears as though it could pan out to be one of the better ones. This weekend, Lionsgate Entertainment will release Daybreakers upon the world, a futuristic humans-vs-vampires sci-fi/horror flick starring Ethan Hawke (Training Day, Before Sunrise) and Willem Dafoe (The Boondock Saints, Platoon).

The film takes place in the year 2019 in a fictitious world where the majority of the human race has been transformed into vampires thanks to a mysterious, unexplainable plague that swept across the planet. With so many bloodsucking coffin-dwellers roaming the earth, it doesn't take long for their primary source of food, that being us, to become an endangered species. Now, the few human beings left are forced into hiding as they fight for their survival from all the hungry, hungry vampires, who must come up with a solution to their dwindling food supply.

In the movie, Hawke plays Edward Dalton, a vampire scientist with a conscious. Instead of feasting on human flesh like the rest of his brethren, Dalton spends his days trying to perfect a concoction of his that would work as an alternative to human blood in which vampires could survive on, therefore ending the global slaughter of the human race. But when he stumbles upon a medical discovery that both humans and vampires would kill to know, it doesn't take him long before being on the run from both species.

Daybreakers was written and directed by Michael and Peter Spierig, the filmmaking duo who first appeared on the scene in 2003 thanks to their campy, down under zombie film, Undead. Moving from one horror subgenre to the next, the Spierig brothers will soon unveil their vampire flick to the world, hoping filmgoers appreciate their creative approach to the traditional vampire folklore. As Michael Spierig explains it, "Daybreakers questions how we would adapt if we all became vampires tomorrow. It twists the rules of typical vampire movies without discarding or disrespecting what we love about the genre."

With a lead star known more for his dramatic independent fare, Ethan Hawke admits he was hesitant to give the Spierigs' innovative horror script a chance. "I had absolutely no intention of liking it," Hawke declared. "I decided that I'd give it ten pages, and by page five I knew that I was going to do it. I could tell right away that the story was completely unique and a lot of fun. It's my hope that the movie will work with people who are determined not to like sci-fi/horror movies, as I was, and that those who do like them will really love this one."

With the film's trailer promising a very dark, blood-soaked vampire film much in the vein of the recently released 30 Days of Night, the Spierig brothers look to cement their status in the horror world as two of the most promising, up and coming filmmakers in the genre by delivering a film both horror and sci-fi fans will enjoy. But don't worry; it hasn't gotten to their head.

The brothers made a name for themselves thanks to a often humorous and very gory approach to their films. And even though Daybreakers is a much more serious, sinister film then their debut Undead was, the brothers reportedly have kept their keen sense of humor intact. Daybreakers reportedly starts out with an opening-credits montage depicting a world run by vampires as they stop in a local Starbucks during their commute to work for an early-morning shot of blood. Now that's some clever satire. Daybreakers opens in theaters everywhere this Friday, January 8, 2010.
